Payroll Tax Manager

Reporting to the Head of Payroll Services, this role will function as a UKG-Pro North America Payroll subject matter expert related to the preparation, validation, monitoring, processing, and disbursing of all payroll taxes. This encompasses taxes for incentive payments, deferred bonus awards, taxes, employee benefit deductions, and net pay from a weekly and bi-weekly frequency for multiple legal entities spanning 48 states, with an employee population of 18,000 colleagues.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Serve as member of HRSS Leadership Team. Team Leadership and development: Develop, plan, and implement core elements that will motivate and engage a high performing team to deliver on business strategy and objectives. Strong focus on team member development to accelerate performance, strengthen capabilities, maintain high engagement and drive/deliver business results.

  • Lead the preparation, documentation, and disbursement of all on cycle payroll checks from a net funds, taxes, HR administration (hire to retire) and employee benefit deductions on a weekly and biweekly frequency for multiple entities with a 15,000+ employee population. Manage the monitoring, validation, and processing of deferred awards (cash and shares); long term incentives; high volume incentives; quarterly adjustment payrolls in support of individual tax balancing reporting; all tasks associated to completing year-end payroll adjustments and closeout routines; all Time & Labor daily and weekly upload processes to ensure accurate payroll processing; all International Assignee payroll items for short-term and long-term assignments.

  • Proactively identify opportunities for change which will add value to the achievement of business objectives and enhance the customer experience. Be flexible to react and/or implement change initiatives. Develop and maintain effective working relationships. Partner with other department and / or divisions with common goals.

  • Identify and manage the risk, minimizing the outcome and escalating where appropriate. Implementation and delivery of business plans and targets. Plan, allocate and organize team resources to meet the business plan. Partner with Payroll Managers in tasks necessary to accomplish payroll processing objectives, including relationships with internal and external contacts, including third parties providing payroll related processing services. Manage payroll harmonization’s conversions, implementations and/or decentralizations because of M&A or divestitures. Provide executive consultation, expertise and guidance on payroll and tax related matters.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of payroll requirements, practices, and procedures for the US. Independently develop in-depth knowledge of our existing Peoplesoft North American Payroll (NAP) and Time & Labor (T&L) software. Manage the execution and administration of nonproduction, exception-based processes, programs, and payments such as general job updates, payroll process updates, general ledger, tax updates, and table configurations. Facilitation and project management of Good Banking Award Program, Deferred Awards, Year End/ Begin and other payroll sponsored projects. Manage the monitoring and processing of research required to complete various Answer Key cases associated to HR Administration and pay details assigned to Tier II & II

    Skills & Experience

  • Tax Knowledge and Compliance: Deep understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations is essential. This includes staying updated on tax changes and ensuring compliance to avoid penalties.

  • Payroll Processing: Proficiency in managing payroll systems and processes, including calculating wages, deductions, benefits, and taxes accurately.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and interpret complex tax regulations and payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure precise calculations and compliance with tax laws.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve payroll and tax-related issues efficiently.

  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with team members, other departments, and tax authorities.

  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with payroll software and systems (such as UKG-Pro North America Payroll, ADP, Workday, or SAP) and proficiency in using Excel for data analysis and reporting.

  • Time Management and Organization: Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, ensuring timely and accurate payroll tax filings and payments.

  • Project Management: Ability to lead and participate in project to continually improve processes.

  • Leadership and Team Management: Experience in managing and leading a team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure effective payroll operations.

  • Ethical Standards and Confidentiality: High ethical standards and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and integrity.

    Qualifications, Education, Certifications and/or Other Professional Credentials

  • FPC is desirable

  • CPP is desirable

  • Hours per Week: 40

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am- 5pm

    Pay Transparency

    The salary range for this position is $92,000-$120,000 per year, plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the work location, and relevant skills and experience.
